Can hand eye coordination be Improved ?

What are the limits of a person's motor skills when they have blindness in one eye? My uncle lost his eye as a child and now lives an ordinary life (drives car, work ) however little things like catching a small ball or shooting hoops are difficult. I believe he was somewhat athletic as a child but may have lost his coordination over time. Can these things be corrected or improved?
